‘Tis normally the season to be jolly, and it is not that we are not excited about the holiday season but rather that we are a little, well, confused! How do we plan? Will we be allowed to celebrate with the usual groups of friends and family, or will we still be in lockdown? Will our businesses be trading as usual, or will we still be facing lots of restrictions, locally or even nationally?
For businesses, it is prudent to have a couple of scenarios lined up to allow you to adapt your approach as we go, and we have pulled together some points to help you plan:
1. Consider the size and complexity of your menu – how could you use a few innovative products to bring Christmas to your menu without necessarily revamping your whole offering?
2. If you offer snacks and treats, rather than a full menu, would individually wrapped products make your customers feel more comfortable?
3. For your festive drinks menu, consider premixed cocktails and smaller bottle sizes to reduce sharing – and don’t forget to include a festive soft drink range, too!
4. Embrace digital tools to communicate your offer. Many businesses are moving away from printed menus and moving these to their website instead, possibly using QR codes to make it easy for your customers to find your menu – could you do the same?
Whatever happens, we are confident that most customers will want to celebrate the festive season and that they will appreciate your efforts to provide a positive and festive atmosphere. As long as you plan sensibly and with adaptability in mind, the holiday season should still provide opportunities to bring cheer to your customers. Goodness knows we all need it!
