The Upper Hand - Planning your journey back to business...

It is a very strange time and many of us are undoubtedly still concerned about the uncertainty around when business will move into a ‘new normal’. We are, however, also starting to see a turn towards a more forward-thinking approach with many businesses starting to think about what this ‘new normal’ could be like and what planning will need to be undertaken to allow for social distancing and a safe return to opening the doors…

Here are a few of the themes that are currently being debated;

• What will consumer expectations look like – will food trends have changed, will customers feel comfortable going out again or will I need to do more in terms of reassuring them of our hygiene practices for example, etc.

• Will my food and drinks menu need to change – do I open with a smaller menu than normal until I know what consumers are looking for, and if so, how do I ensure my proposition is still diverse and appealing enough?

• What about social distancing – how will I manage it if too many people turn up at the same time and don’t adhere to the guidelines?

• And what about my own team? How do I reassure them to make sure they are comfortable and feel safe returning to work?

The answers to these questions will, of course, vary depending on your business but it is worth dedicating some of the down-time at the moment to get a plan underway, and start laying out what the journey ahead may look like for you.
