Chilean Merlot has consistently been one of the most reliable value wines in recent years. This example is rich, plummy and soft with a pleasing finish.
Chile is only 100 miles wide at its widest point. This means the country has a healthy mix of grapes grown by the sea and further in land. By combining fruit from both areas the wines have both freshness (from the cooler coastal vineyards) and depth of fruit (from the warmer, inland vineyards). This really is the best of both worlds.
Chilean Merlot is a versatile wine but this pairs best with barbecues, roast dinners or just good company.
